eosinophilic esophagitis

The Disease

  • Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a long-term, inflammatory disease of the esophagus, affecting children and adults
  • In children, it causes symptoms such as vomiting, pain, and difficulty maintaining a healthy weight, and significantly impacts quality of life

The Study

  • Dupilumab is a biologic medication that blocks the pathways leading to inflammation in EoE
  • The EoE KIDS study assessed whether dupilumab reduced markers of EoE in 102 affected children 1–11 years of age compared with a dummy treatment (placebo)

Treatments

  • The EoE KIDS study looked at a higher dose or lower dose of dupilumab compared with placebo up to Week 16
  • From Week 16 to Week 52, patients either continued the same dupilumab dose or switched from placebo to higher-dose or lower-dose dupilumab
  • From Week 52 up to Week 100, eligible patients who continued from Part B into Part C, received an open-label dupilumab dose later approved by the FDA (similar to the higher dose used up to Week 52)
  • Of the 37 patients who did not enter Part C from Part B, 18 were ineligible due to age
